The Gibraltar Joinery & Building Services (JBS) company hires us to apply self-leveling mortar on apartment and residential floors in Euston and the Residential in the Midtown Real Estate Complex. The case is particularly complicated because it is about pouring the self-leveling on a Foamex acoustic sheet of 1 cm thick. In addition the self-leveling should be 6 cm thick (Midtown Apartments) and 8 cm thick (Euston Housing). In total 23,774 m2 had to be treated.
The first spills of self-leveling on the flexible acoustic sheet generated significant cracking problems. The volume of the work was so considerable that the manufacturer wanted to do different tests, but the results were not satisfactory: the mortar was splitting, not setting or setting too fast, even not leveling.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS: As an alternative, we proposed Sika Level 115, due to its capacity to get thicknesses of up to 10 cm, its suitability for floating floors and high self-leveling characteristics.
All the necessary tests gave satisfactory results, only microcraking because of plastic retraction, all of them, superficial and non-passing were studied by Sika technicians. They determined that the case did not pose any structural or aesthetic problem, since they were to be covered by the finishes.
The execution was very demanding, requiring a perfect planimetry because of the finish wood laminate flooring chosen.
M2 TOTAL LEVELLED SURFACED 23,774 M2 (2,950,000 KG OFÂ SELF-LEVELING MORTAR).
